Preview: Claremont Tri-Meet

March 9th, 2010 · No Comments

This Thursday, the Tartans will travel to Claremont High School to face the Wolf Pack and San Gorgonio High School in a Triangular or three-way meet.  This meet will be for our returning athletes and a few select newcomers who earned a spot through their performances last Saturday.

In last year’s meet, the boys won the meet in the final 4×400 relay, as Chris Ramsey (‘09) anchored the team to follow up his wins in the 1600 and 200.  The girls were led by strong double wins from sprinter Shaun Miller (‘09) and thrower Catherine Chidester (‘09).  (All three athletes are competing in college, btw, at Yale, Citrus, and Mt.Sac, respectively).

The athletes taking part in this meet will be excused from class at 1:40pm and the bus will leave at 2:00.  Athletes must be dressed to compete – uniforms on, sweats/warm-ups on, athletic shoes on – to get on the bus.  We expect the athletes to stay for the entire meet, and athletes wishing to ride home from the meet with their parents rather than on the bus must present the coaches with a written request to do so from their parents at Wednesday’s practice. Please understand that the coaches will enforce what the previous paragraph says, so planning to go along with these standards will save everyone a lot of needless drama.  The meet will probably run past 6:00 and we’ll not return to GHS until around 7:00, so athletes are welcome to do homework during the meet.

It looks like we’ll have good weather and fast track on Thursday, so it should be a great day for our athletes.
