Claremont Novice: Great Start

March 6th, 2010 · No Comments

Nearly 100 Tartans officially began their track careers today at the Claremont Novice Trials.  We were really fortunate with the weather, with the predicted rain holding off until the end of the day, but coming just in time for our 200 meter runners to learn the true meaning of competing on an “all-weather” track.

Frosh Sean Williams and Rocki Bartholomew were the winners in the boys 100 and girls shot.  Rocki followed up with a 7th place in the discus, while Sean was 4th in the 200 and his 100 time (11.92) was the best by a GHS freshman boy since 2004.  Frosh Cade Lindsay had top ten placings in four events: 8th in the 100, 9th – 200, 2nd – 110HH, and 8th – 300IH.  Ashlyn Salgado (Fr) was 5th in the 300LH and =5th – high jump.Other Tartan boys finishing in the top 10 were Aaron Forburger (So) 7th and Garrett Hernandez (Fr) 8th in the 1600, and Blake Mitchell (So) 4th and Mitchell Edginton (Fr) 7th in the discus.

Tartan girls in the top 10 in their events were Raeine Valbuena (Fr), 9th – 100; Dianah DiMascio (So) 8th – 400; Kristen Smith (Fr) 6th and Audrey Flores 10th in the 800; Julie Cooke (Fr), 6th – 300LH; Jessica Palmini (So) 5th – shot; Kaylee Fink (Fr) 9th – discus; and Nicole Rethmeier (Fr) =3rd, Kristiana Perez (Fr) =3rd, Erin Bracy (Fr) =5th, and Katelyn Johnson (Fr) =5th, all in the high jump.
